In a sorry state ...

Sankey tank situated in the midst of Malleshwaram.Vyalikaval & Sadhashivnagar is one among the numerous lakes in Bangalore city. Due to the rain fury last August and mainly improper planning the lake is in a very sorry state today.

Bengalooru Mahanagara Palike had spent close to 4 crore rupees in 2004 on beautification of the lake.

The mini bridge along the 1700 meter jogging track, the landscaping, the boating jetty , the sturdy iron railings contributed to the fact that it was frequented by scores of people everyday.

As early as 5 in the morning health conscious Bangloreans made this place a part of their daily routine.

These lawns were the perfect platform for yoga , meditation or just free excercises.

Be it early in the morning or late evening sankey used to be a bee hive of activities. I myself used to frequent this place in the mornings .
An old post

A beautiful sunset

You can blame it on nature's fury or the negligence of the BMP officials the lake is in this state.

Even after 5 months after the heavy rains it remains submerged in water which acts as a threat to the health of people in the surrounding areas as it is a breeding ground for mosquitos and other pests.

What was once full of life is now a desolate grave'water'yard.

The restoration work is going on at a snails pace with the cobble stones being laid on the joggers track.

With the new government in place and a youthful chief minister Kumarswamy holding the reins, I wish the BMP officials pull up their socks and speeden the work. I cant wait to see the splendour of the lake restored to its original glory.

Until then ...

yes .. its the case of a paradise turning into ruins .

the kind of money which authorities spend is absurd. what is necessary is just a fraction of that money and discipline and honesty among the authorities concerned.

a really good attempt at a photo-story, congrats! photography wise, i would have liked to see more people in your pictures.. like for example, in the nov 2004 pics you could have shot the walk-way with people on their morning walk..
otherwise a very interesting subject, keep working on it...

thanks for the feedback vivek. yes I completely agree with you. with people in the first set of photographs the difference then and now could have been magnified tenfold.

I missed it though :(
